ABOUT THE SAWTOOTH NRA?
Still relatively undeveloped, but draws lots of tourism.
Diverse recreation opportunities – especially in the
Boulder/White Clouds.
Lifestyle – lots of friends.
Fish and wildlife resources, natural beauty, sense of
awe.
Traditions that families and people have established,
and the love they have for this area.
The sense of history, and the personal emotions
coming from my own long history here and the history
of my family in the area.
Feels like home – great place to raise kids.
The mountains, the wildlife, the society/community –
I feel like I fit in here.
It’s my home, where I raised my family, where I’ve
chosen to live.
I was trained to cherish the wilderness by my family
as a child.
Serene majesty – diverse recreation.
Rivers, fish and wildlife, and the people that share the
same values.
Beauty of the area, and the sense of community.
Fishing and hunting, fisheries, we still have salmon
runs; if we have viable salmon runs, then our
environment’s in good shape.
The views, the pastoral scenes.
The dedication of the staff here; though they’ve
changed, we still see the dedication to preserving this
special place, keeping it for the future, not allowing it
to be overcome.
Sense of community, the passion people have for this
area.
“Stanley time” – the lifestyle that living in Stanley
creates.
I wake up every morning and get my breath taken
away.
Can live and work here and hopefully do good things
for this place.
The community and the love for this place, and the
chance to raise children here.
The most natural, diverse, and extraordinary area in
the United States.
To be honest, I don’t cherish it as much as I used to.
This is where I learned about mountains and wildlife
and open spaces.
This is my home.
People care rabidly about this place and want to
protect it.
As an artist, this is where my spirit comes from for my
work – the mountains, the rivers, the grass, the
flowers; everything about this place.
The quiet, peaceful, open, pastoral, rural setting.
Still a lot of western tradition and culture.
Great getaway for hunting and fishing.
The beauty and the chance to share it with my kids.
Knowing that it’s there – the ability to say, “There’s a
chance I can go”…
The opportunity to work on resolving issues here with
people who care so much about this area.
Typifies the old West.
Mountains, water, wildlife, and a community that’s
committed and connected to the land.
