HELP US ACCOMPLISH MORE
There's more to be done in protection of the Sawtooth National Recreation
Area (SNRA), and you can help us achieve some ambitious objectives.
In addition to our ongoing programs, here are just a few of our ongoing
initiatives:
- Encouraging the Administration, Congress and Forest Service to make
the SNRA a high priority.
- Facilitating the acquisition of conservation easements on the most
vulnerable-to-development properties in the SNRA.
- Funding recreational facilities and services in the SNRA
- Restoring historic log worm fences in the Sawtooth Valley and Stanley
Basin.
- Promoting constructive working relationships between all who live,
work and play in the SNRA.
- Supporting public and private efforts to mitigate the mountain pine
beetle infestation and reduce the threat of wildfires.
- Dealing with other issues of bedrock importance to the area.
- Encouraging resolution to the long-standing debate regarding proposals
to include the Boulder-White Cloud region into the National Wilderness
System.
- Developing a long-term vision for the SNRA, complete with actions
that need to be taken by the public and private sectors to ensure
that the vision is realized for the benefit of those who live, work
and recreate there.

Untrammeled development, shown in these photos,
was halted with the creation of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area
in 1972. Good progress was made initially in securing conservation easements
that protected open space. Alarmingly, efforts to preserve open space
and maintain recreation facilities have faltered in recent years.
