SAWTOOTH SOCIETY NAMES GENTER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

David Genter has been named executive director of the Sawtooth Society. He succeeds Bob Hayes, who has served in that capacity since 1997. Hayes continues to serve as the organization’s president.

Genter brings an extensive background of accomplishments in conservation to the Society. He directed the Northern Rockies office of the Trust for Public Lands for seven years. Earlier, he worked for the Montana office of The Nature Conservancy, establishing the Natural Heritage Program and statewide Natural Resources Information System. Genter holds a BS degree in biology from the University of Colorado and an MS degree in zoology from the University of Montana. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors related to his work in conservation.

Genter has developed strong relationships with local, state and national policymakers, the U.S. Forest Service, state agencies, private landowners and others involved in western natural resource issues. He has a strong record of collaborating with individuals and organizations having diverse interests.

He is relocating from Montana to Idaho and will reside in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area this summer to become thoroughly acquainted with its residents, land managers, public officials and issues.

The Sawtooth Society is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that was formed in 1997 to work on behalf of the 756,000-acre Sawtooth National Recreation Area and those that live, work and recreate there.
