CAMPING
Most of the over 30 campgrounds in the SNRA are on a first-come,
first-served basis.
If you would like to reserve a site ahead of time, there are 7
individual campgrounds, 1 large group campground, 4 small group
campgrounds and 3 day use picnic areas are on the reservation system.
During the summer, and especially on weekends, the reserved campsites
are completely booked up. For future planning, individual sites can be
reserved 240 days in advance. Group sites can be reserved 360 days in
advance. Reservations have to be made a minimum of 4 days in advance. To
make reservations for these campsites, call the National Recreation
Reservation Service at: 1-877-444-6777 or go online at:
www.reserveusa.com
Camping attracts more recreationists to the SNRA than any other
single activity. There are 37 developed campgrounds with a total of 700
individual sites along the Salmon River, in the Stanley, Redfish, and
Alturas Lake areas and in the Wood River Valley. Camping outside of
developed campgrounds is allowed with some restrictions.
For late season campers, there are some campgrounds that remain
ungated but you will need to Pack In & Pack Out at these sites. Theses
sites have no drinking water, no garbage pick-up and limited toilet
facilities.
