The Forest Service has a wide variety of recreation information and
educational brochures on a large assortment of topics.
BROCHURES
- A Guide To Your National Forests is a free
brochure showing locations of national forests and grasslands and
available from forest service offices.
USGS MAPS
- Topographic Maps provide by far, the greatest
level of detail because they cover smaller portions of a forest. You
can purchase these maps from the US Geological Survey and many retail
outlets.
SPECIALITY MAPS
- Visitor Maps are available for purchase from
individual forests, the National Forest Store and many retail outlets.
This map provides forest-wide information on attractions, facilities,
services and opportunities.
- Trail Maps in many specific recreational
activities such as cross-country skiing, backpacking and snowmobiling.
They include:

who enjoy Off Road Vehicle use on National Forest land. These maps
illustrate trails where ORV use is authorized and will help you avoid
traveling in areas that are off-limits.
