WHO WE ARE
The Sawtooth Society is a independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization
formed in 1997 to help protect the 756,000-acre Sawtooth National Recreation
Area (SNRA).
The Society's mission is to help preserve and protect the natural, historical
and recreational qualities of the SNRA.
The Society is the only organization dedicated exclusively to:
- Serving as an advocate for the SNRA
- Preserving open space in the SNRA
- Enhancing recreational facilities and services in the SNRA
The current and former board of directors include
those who led the effort to create the SNRA in 1972: former U.S. Senator
Jim McClure, former U.S. Representative Orval Hansen, former U.S.
Interior Secretary and Idaho Governor Cecil Anrus, and Bethine Church
(widow of former U.S. Senator Frank Church), as well as conservationists,
ranchers, recreationists, outfitters, and property owners.
